🪡 To Embroider the Design

Transfer the Moonlight Fairy design [DOWNLOAD HERE] onto your fabric using a water-soluble pen, or print directly onto water-soluble paper for easy placement.

Pop your fabric into a 6” embroidery hoop and tighten gently — snug but not stretched.

Now for the fun part! Follow the colour and stitch guide above:Start with the outline and facial features, then move on to the hair strands and dress details. Finish off with the wings, wand, and sparkles to bring your fairy to life. ✨

Once you’ve finished stitching, press the fabric gently from the back using a low-heat iron to smooth out any hoop marks.

Feeling creative? Mix things up by adding fabric pens or paints before or after stitching — a little colour wash under your embroidery looks beautiful and adds extra depth.

💡 French knots too tight? Try loosening your tension slightly and wrapping the thread twice — it gives a neat, plump finish every time.

To Attach the Embroidery to the Bag:

  1. Cut a piece of Bondaweb slightly larger than the embroidered area.

  2. Iron it onto the back of the embroidery (follow manufacturer’s instructions).

  3. Trim around the design using pinking shears for a decorative edge. You can cut in a circle or oval shape, or leave a border a few centimetres from the edge of the design.

  4. Position the embroidery on the front of the bag and iron it in place.
  5. Optional: Add a running stitch around the edge of the design to secure it and create a finished detail.

Don’t Want to Embroider?

No worries — you can still join in the magic! ✨If stitching isn’t your thing, simply trace or print the fairy design straight onto your fabric (just as you would for embroidery), then bring her to life with fabric pens or paints.

Tip: try outlining in a slightly darker shade first, then blend in lighter tones for soft, fairy-like colour. It gives the design a lovely hand-drawn look — perfect for little keepsakes.

When you’re done, let the ink or paint dry completely, then press with a warm iron (following your pen or paint instructions) to set those dreamy colours for good.

To Make the Drawstring Bag:

1. Fold the 68 x 30 cm fabric in half (short end to short end), wrong sides together.

2. Pin and stitch both sides with a 5 mm seam allowance. Leave a 2 cm opening on each side, 4 cm down from the top.

3. Turn inside out and stitch another seam 1 cm from the edge to enclose raw edges (French seam). Still leaving the 2cm openings clear of stitches.

Adding the Drawstring:

Now it’s time to give your little bag its finishing touch — the drawstring!

Option 2: Cut your ribbon into two 1 m lengths. Attach a safety pin to one end of the first ribbon and carefully thread it through one casing, all the way around and back out through the same opening.

Repeat with the second ribbon from the opposite side, so your bag can pull closed evenly when both ribbons are tugged. It feels so satisfying when it gathers up neatly!

Finishing tip: depending on your selected ribbon, you can trim the ends into a neat V-shape (or at a slight angle) to help prevent fraying.

4. Hem the top: turn and press a 5 mm hem, then fold over approx. 3 cm to form the drawstring casing.

5. Stitch the casing, keeping the side openings clear.

6. Turn right side out and press.
